Schindler Museum Krakow: Visitor Info and Overview
One of the most famous sights in Krakow is the enamelware factory of Oskar Schindler. Almost everyone knows the movie “Schindler’s List” by Steven Spielberg from 1993. This is the factory for products made of enamel that the movie is about. Oskar Schindler saved many Jews from concentration camps and death because he kept them employed in the factory in Krakow against much resistance during the Nazi period.
The factory of Oskar Schindler is now a well-known museum worth seeing, which costs only a few euros entrance fee. The museum is about the factory and in general about the Nazi period in the region and about the persecution and murder of the Jews in Poland.
The exhibition in the Fabryka Emalia Oskara Schindlera, as the museum is called in Polish, is large, modern and worth seeing. The Schindler Museum is one of the most important sights in Krakow. Many texts, pictures and films realistically depict the Nazi reign of terror in Poland. There is also a cinema. In the film eyewitnesses tell about Oskar Schindler and the workers in the factory. Enamelware such as cooking pots were made in the factory. The exhibition is quite large, you pass through dozens of rooms. You should plan several hours to visit the Schindler Museum in Krakow.
Address and directions Schindler factory Krakow: Ulica Lipowa 4 (Linden Street 4), Krakow. We ordered a Bolt (cab). It only cost about 4 euros from downtown (about 5 km). The Schindler Museum is south of the Old Town on the other side of the Vistula River.
Opening hours Oskar Schindler Museum Krakow: daily 10 am to 7 pm, Monday only to 2 pm. There is one day off per month, the first Tuesday of each month.
